Shipping Chicks
We remember the first time we received chicks in the mail, we were so excited......yet nervous about the whole process.
We would like to share with you what to expect when you receive your own shipment of adorable chicks from us!
Ordering Chicks
To purchase chicks from us, please visit our "Shop" page and choose the breed and quantity you want to add to or start your flock with. Add the chicks to your cart and proceed to checkout. You will be asked to provide your shipping and payment details. Once your order is complete, we will add your order to our hatching list, and ship your chicks to you on their hatch day. Per shipping regulations, chicks must be shipped within 24 hours from hatching. We have pre-order dates available to ensure that they'll be shipped within that 24 hour window.
We offer our over-hatch chicks, extra chicks that hatch beyond our pre-order estimates, in the Over-hatch Chick Group listing!
Please note: For chicks to safely be shipped from March-June 1st, we ship a minimum of 10 chicks. We will add Free Male chicks to orders of fewer than 10 chicks. From June 1 through the end of our chick season, we ship a minimum of six chicks per order.
How We Prepare Your
Chicks for Shipment
Sending our precious little chicks out is a source of pride and worry for us. We want these beautiful little birds from our flocks to travel in the most secure and humane way possible, and we do our best to ensure that. We use a box designed to ship chicks with a straw mat and a 72-hour heat pack to keep them comfortable and safe. In very warm weather, we will not include a heat pack to prevent overheating. Additionally, we provide the chicks with grogel to keep them hydrated and as comfortable as possible throughout their journey. We drive our chick shipments to a post office a little over an hour away since our local post office is smaller and would require more stops for the chicks.
All shipped chicks are accompanied by our National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) certification information, guaranteeing that they come from healthy and disease-free flocks.
Chick Shipment
We purchase the fastest shipping available for chicks. Despite the recent changes in chick shipping regulations allowing for a 3-day delivery, we have found that most chicks arrive within 2 days. We carefully label our chick boxes with your information. As soon as we receive the tracking number, we pass that info along to you in an email. Rest assured, we are checking for updates often right along with you! Your chicks will not be delivered to your home. They will be held at your local post office. We add your phone number to the shipping label and an extra label on the chick box. Your post office will give you a call, typically in the morning, to let you know that your chicks have arrived! Make sure you're fully prepared with your brooder set up and ready to pick up your adorable chicks promptly. While you are still in the post office, open your chick box and check on your new little ones. We prioritize the safe arrival of all chicks to their destination. However, in the rare occurrence that any issues arise, we recommend referring to our FAQ's for guidance on how to proceed.
You may find it reassuring or helpful to call your local post office ahead of time to let them know you are expecting chicks to arrive soon. We have found that, both when we receive chicks or ship them, the local post office employees and post masters are excited and happy to help ensure the chicks travel well to their new home.
