Marans

Marans

Marans chickens are docile, intelligent, beautiful and lay some of our favorite eggs! Although we have been collecting these dark eggs for years now, it is still eggciting to see them in the nesting boxes each day!
Our Marans line started out in 2018. We selected our foundation flock members from other breeders with those beautifully dark egg genetics and have loved watching our Marans line improve! We currently hatch out eggs from a 5-8 on the Marans scale. We only ship or hatch eggs that meet our high standards, ones that we would want in our own flocks. Although we hatch out chicks for our flocks before or after our official hatching season, we do not separate out the best eggs or chicks during the season. We share those chicks and the best eggs with the fellow chicken friends that support our farm. In this way, I truly feel as though I am sharing my Marans flock with you.

When we carefully selected our foundation flock, we included few dark egg laying Blue and Splash Marans. Most of our Marans flock members have the classic Black or Black Copper feather varieties, but we love those Blue and Splash feather patterns! As of 2024, our roosters with those dark egg genetics and excellent Marans standards are all the Black Copper feather pattern. Chicks hatched will be either Black/Black Copper or Blue/Blue Copper feather patterns. Stay tuned! As we continue working with our Marans flock and testing out genetics, we hope to add a "Splash" more color to the flock.

We are members of The Marans Club and The Marans Chicken Club USA. Our Marans flock consists of Black Copper, Black, and Blue Marans, with a special emphasis on the blue variation, which is not currently recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA). Rather than striving for breed perfection, our breed focus is on egg color, size, and production. We love those dark eggs! If you're looking for Standard of Perfection (SOP) Black Copper or Black Marans, our flock may not be the perfect fit for you. However, if you are looking for beautiful Marans hens and roos with deep, rich egg color genetics, then you'll love our Marans flock. We love those dark eggs and the hens that lay them!

Along with their stunning egg colors and beautiful feather patterns, these birds have lovely personalities. The hens are docile and sweet. As with all chickens, each individual has its own personality, but I have yet to experience an ornery Marans roo or hen. Marans roosters are tied for first place in my book (title shared with Bielefelder roosters.) I appreciate the gentle nature of our Marans roosters. I love watching the fluffy hens and dignified roos in our Marans flock. Marans are a wonderful addition to any flock!
